Qualcomm Communication

Back in July/August of 2010, Ryan Logistics installed Qualcomm units in its company trucks. For the company drivers, there was a little bit of a learning curve to overcome.

Since then, Ryan has come a long way, and overall, the use of this technology has provided both the drivers and the dispatch team tools to improve communications and speed up the process of dispatch. However, the use of this technology hasn't come without its share of problems.

Communication failures have been the biggest hurdle to overcome. Drivers can help minimize these issues by being aware of the hardware installation. In daycabs, the hardware is mounted under the passenger seat. In sleepers, it's in the side box. In both cases, drivers can help minimize communication failures by assuring that the space around the hardware is kept free of items that may knock the cabling loose. In some cases, drivers inadvertently knock the cables free from the modem box or jar it loose which causes complete or intermittent communication issues with the system.

Understanding some of these root causes can help minimize driver and dispatch frustration with this new technology. With the team working together, Ryan Logistics can continously improve and support their customers 100% of the time, all the time.
